How to Improve your Typing Speed

There are many ways to up your typing speed nowadays such as the use of typing software. This is currently necessary because typing is a needed skill in many kinds of jobs already. Most jobs entail the use of computers and other technologically advanced equipments and knowing how to type therefore comes in very handy. But typing is not all about pressing the letter or number keys on the keyboard. It needs mind control and practice. To become fast in the skill, especially in touch typing much more practice and discipline is needed. Aside from this there are other ways to help you make you speed up your fingers.

Proper Finger Placement

If you are serious about learning how to type fast, you should know where each finger should be placed. Take note of the word should or must, this means it is a procedure that needs to be followed for appropriate learning. You cannot just place your fingers anywhere on the keyboard or just keep on using your index or middle finger alone to be able to type fast. Each finger has its proper place and each letter or character needs to be pushed by a specific finger.

The beginning point is the mid-row alphabet keys using F and J as the guide for the other finger placements. You'll notice that these keys have raised bumps to serve as guides. G and H are not covered by any finger but are pushed by the respective fingers beside them.

The fingers then push the corresponding keys across them whether on top or at its bottom.

Memorization and Practice

Memorizing the key placements and finger movements are essential parts for learning typing especially in speeding up your pace. The critical part is key practice. Practicing makes the fingers get used to the movement of typing and when the fingers are very used to it, then making them move faster will be easier.

You could use any book you may have to practice your typing but typing software and books with lessons specifically on typing are the best references and help for this. A book with typing lessons will provide you with specific words for practice. These words are chosen for the purpose of practicing striking the keys near each other. The same goes for the typing software. It also has chosen words for practice but its main advantage compared to a traditional book about typing is that it can help you measure your accuracy and speed. This will help you gauge your progress and knowledge better. When you know these factors you can adjust your finger movement to become better at the skill.

Knowing how to type is helpful for a lot of jobs and you can easily do tasks which need to be done either on the traditional typewriter but most especially on the computer. But being a fast in typing has more advantages primarily you can get more things done in lesser time.
