WordPress Themes And Widgets

In order to understand WordPress Widgets it is probably best to start with their relationship to themes. When a website is built with a WordPress theme, the designer set it up to appear a certain way. A theme is basically what your website will look like when it is published. However, if you need to add any specific functionalities that is usually accomplished with a small bit of code, a small separate application, referred to as a widget
Adding Widgets is extremely easy from your WordPress Dashboard. Simply click on the Widgets tab on the Appearance menu and the Widgets panel will open up. From there you can simply drag the widget you want to add over to your sidebar and drop it where you want it to appear.
Depending on the Widget you wish to add, there may be some customizations that you need to apply from a drop down menu. Widgets can be moved up and down the sidebar to the location of your preference by simply dragging it with your mouse and rearranging the order.

If you want to apply a WordPress theme, the first step is making sure you have the theme installed. There are two different ways that a WordPress theme can be installed. The first option is to install it manually by uploading the theme folder to your themes directory. This requires some knowledge of FTP and web directories.
The second option is to use the build in theme uploader, which can be accessed from directly in the WordPress administration panel. To get started, just browser to the appearance section in WordPress and click on the themes section. One in here, you can just click on the add new theme button to get started. You can either search for a theme in the directory or choose the zip file you downloaded from somewhere else on the internet.

The majority of modern WordPress themes are widget-ready, i.e. users can modify them without having to change the code. You just log in as the administrator and drag the elements you want to the sidebar adding and rearranging them whenever you wish.
