Holiday Décor for the Christmas Season

Decorating for the holidays can be incredibly fun. This is especially true when you anticipate guests coming or have new decorating ideas to try. In case your creativity is ebbing low or your worn-out decorations are ready to retire, here are a few holiday décor ideas to spruce things up.

Decorate with food.

Christmas and food go together. Why not use food as a holiday decoration? Make a gingerbread house, and use it as a table centerpiece or even an end-table decoration. String popcorn together and use it to decorate a tree, banister, or mantel. Bake and decorate sugar cookies, then hang them from your tree and other places around your house. A bundle of cinnamon sticks rapped with ribbon, placed in a glass jar, and set on a table provide an attractive piece of holiday décor. Filling a glass bowl with fruit and mixed nuts creates an eye catching and edible decoration.

Wrap the house.

Wrapping paper is perfect for covering more than just your presents. It's a great way to decorate other things around the house as well. One idea is to wrap your doors with wrapping paper. This will really brighten up the room with lots of holiday cheer. Cover the table with wrapping paper, letting the covering function as a disposable tablecloth as well. Even picture frames, vases, lampshades, and plant pots can be covered with wrapping paper. Buy several rolls of the same style wrapping paper in order to maintain your theme. But do not stop with just wrapping paper. Add bows, bells, and beads where appropriate to add some pizazz to your wrapping job. Holiday decorations are no longer limited to pretty presents and a ceramic Santa sitting on the T.V.

Add presents.

Why keep presents just under the tree? Taking a festively wrapped Christmas present and strategically placing them in other areas of your home offer a quick and easy holiday décor fix. Decorate a large box with paper and a ribbon then place it in a corner. Stack several wrapped boxes, each complementing one another in color and variety. Wrapped presents can be placed anywhere, as long as you have an empty spot or a flat surface.

Liven it up.

One excellent way to add green, infuse scent, and increase the Christmas feel in your home is to liven it up - literally. Use these plants as decoration. Several trees, plants, and plant items are associated with Christmas - holly, spruce, pine, fir, poinsettias, pine cones, and berries. Hanging a live wreath on the wall or above a fireplace puts a splash of green in the room and spreads a beautiful aroma. Place evergreen branches in a coffee tin and place it in a corner.
