Tips For DIY Beach Parties: Create Your Own Invitations

You'd be amazed at how many varieties there are of printable party invitations in this day and age. It seems like no matter what the occasion, there are an unbelievable number of free downloadable invitations you can print at home. There are, of course, plenty of the more mainstream variety, such as commitment ceremony invitations. But if you're throwing a beach-themed party, then you'll want something more specific.

Thanks to the Internet, there are plenty of beach wedding invitations that will festively announce your party. And if your party will be a luau, there are even quite a few luau party invitations available online. These printable invitations are usually fairly easy to prepare if you know how to use a word processing program, like MS Word, Open Office or AbiWord; or a publishing program, like Microsoft Publisher or The Print Shop Professional. Simply paste the invitation image into the software application, scale it to the size you want and print it. But as simple as that is, you should to be aware of some key elements when producing the invitations. The following tips will help you grasp those subtleties and make the most out of free invitation art:

When using word processing software program, you can use tables or text boxes to get more than one invitation graphic on a page. This will save card stock and your time. (You'll probably find that using a table is the easier path to take. If you're not proficient with tables or text boxes, check your word processing software's help materials.) Be sure to butt one or more at least one side of one invitation to the other, so you can eliminate one cut.

When cutting the invitations, it's best to use a paper cutter. If you don't have one, you can get them cut inexpensively at a local instant print shop, copy center or office supply store. If there isn't a store with a paper cutter in your area, the next best method is to use a craft knife, ruler and cutting board. And if all else fails, you can use scissors. If you do, make sure to draw faint pencil lines first, so you'll see where to cut. If you don't think you'll be able to cut straight, you might try using patterned scissors to create a decorative edge that will hide imperfections.

Once the invitations are cut out, you can embellish them to make them unique. You'll find a vast array of beach-theme decorations at your neighborhood craft store. These include stamped out paper embellishments, silk Hawaiian flowers, rhinestones and many other types of additions. You can also use glitter glue or dimensional paint to make the invitations truly your own. Be careful with this, however, because less is more when it comes to embellishment. Try using the glue or paint on just the highlights of the design. and make sure you have extra invitations on-hand, so you can experiment until you get the best look.
