How to develop a real knock out punch?

Hi there, I have noticed that the media seems to be predicting a sharp rise in violent crime. I hate knives and guns when used against another person so would like to develop a real bone-jarring punch in case I am ever confronted; how do I go about this? Is the best way simply to line up with a punch bag and hit it over and over? Thanks

The power to kockout an opponent with one punch really comes from technique more so than brute force. The old saying that "the punch you don't see is the one that knocks you out" is true as well. It's almost an off shoot of Sun Tzu's "all warfare is based on deception." That's why telegraphing your punch is where you should start leanring how to punch. Winding up and throwing a long looping over hand right isn't going to do it. A straight fast punch right down the middle or a quick snapping hook will to the trick a lot more effectively that swinging for the seats.

The power comes from your legs, and the snap on the end of the punch as you turn your hips into it combined with the accuracy of where it lands. The perfect knockout punch has always been the point of the chin. A hook to the point of the chin drives the back of the jaw bone into that bunch of nerves protected by that boney knob behind your ear. You can feel the hump of bone I am talking about by feeling behind your ear. The back of your jaw bone is about a 1/2 to an inch below it and the object of your punch is do bounch the jaw bone off that protrusion with your punch. It really doesn't take a real hard shot, although a bazooka beats a love tap most of the time. Same holds true for a straight shot right down the middle, only you're pushing the jaw bone into both nerve bunches and the same time with a straight right or left. Speed is power.

Learning and training to punch harder is fine, but knowing how, where and why to punch is just as important. There is no substitute for actually doing it, and no amount of discussing or anaylzing it will replace actually doing it a few times. Untill you knockout a couple guys, you won't realize how easy it really is when the punch lands in the "sweet spot".

Understanding the mechanics of of good knockout is almost as important as developing mule kick power. Combine the two aspects, and you are on your way. Good luck.
