A gift with a card could be just what the doctor ordered to brighten up a friend or family member's day. Do you ever wonder when the proper time is to give a paper greeting card in place of an e-card?

We all love e-cards and we send them to family members and friends for some special occasions but we like to give paper greeting cards on others.

When acknowledging a birthday or anniversary it's easy to do the quick thing by sending an e-card so we can get back to what we were doing before life interrupted us. We're all so busy that we sometimes opt for convenience over etiquette.

2. What about the Bride to needing to mend a broken relationship with a high school friend before the wedding? This is the perfect time to write a heartfelt message in a paper greeting card instead of an e-card.

3. There is the forgotten birthday or anniversary. You can send an e-card to say I'm sorry I forgot your birthday, but how much nicer will it be to send a card with a gift to say you're sorry? Imagine the smile and joy that card and gift will bring.

4. How about a wedding you can't afford to attend because it's thousands of miles away and you're running low on funds? An e-card probably wouldn't work in this situation either. The gesture could be misconstrued and perceived as none caring. A regular greeting card might make a stronger impact on the person getting it.

5. A wedding announcement is a good time to use a real card to share your wedding plans. The person attending your wedding can keep the wedding announcement card as a keepsake.

6. Last but not least, the funeral is the right time to give a paper card to a family to express your sympathy and love.
