When one considers Spanish music, one cannot help but think about Flamenco because it is, without thinking twice, one of the most famous dance forms that came from Spain. A lot of people even though that Flamenco is Spain’s national dance, which couldn’t be further from the truth. However, a quick study of the history of Flamenco will show you that this couldn’t be farther from the truth; Flamenco is actually only known in one part of Spain which is the Andalusian vicinity.

A known music technique that is acquired from Spain is Flamenco, which a lot of people wrongly believed to be the national music of Spain. On the contrary, Flamenco is only known just in one section of Spain; an autonomous community in Spain called Andalusia, which is considered the largest in terms of land area in the country. Unfortunately, this doesn’t change the fact that the history of this musical and dance form is all but missing.

It is also quite unfortunate that since Flamenco came from what was then noted as the lower class society, historians and government officials of Spain perceive no importance to record and preserve the tradition of that cultural class that started and supported the Flamenco. Another important detail why it’s difficult to locate its beginnings is because the poor people who practiced the music only preserved the art by oral traditions because they do not have literacy and does not know how to write; in addition to that the poor people during those times were being persecuted during the Spanish Inquisition in 1492.

Historians and other experts up to this generation are finding out the accurate history and ancestry of Flamenco. In fact, it did not just succeed throughout the generation but it became known and really transformed into a widely studied music and dance technique until today.
