sewing cotton with fleece?
I would like to make a novelty blanket for some friends. I cant find any fleece that I like, but love a couple of novelty cottons. Cotton doesn't make a great feeling blanket like fleece does though. I am a beginner sewer up for a challenge. Is it okay to use 100% cotton AND fleece.. I would use the cotton as a large border around the fleece, and also use fleece as the binding. Would mixing the fabrics be a mistake?
It's fine to use them together, but I wouldn't recommend the cotton as a border. That's because the fleece will have a lot of stretch and the cotton doesn't and things are likely to go awry.
What you might do is use the fleece as a backing for the cotton. Some people use this techinique for fast and easy quilts. The idea is to quilt them together. You could then put a border or binding made of cotton because the cotton and fleece quilted togethter will be stable.
