Do combat engineers get trained for infantry too?
I'm picking out my wish list for the Army. My first choice is 11b infantry. If I don't get that I still want to do some kind of combat job. Do combat engineers get trained for infantry as well?
Infantry and combat engineers have two different skill sets. A Combat Engineer will be trained in maneuver and will work with Infantry (leading to a skill set cross over) but that doesn't mean that he is an Infantryman with explosives (as they so often like to boast). A lot of combat engineers nowadays do route clearance which can be pretty tedious.
Keep in mind you have to choose 11X and they choose if you're an 11B or 11C (unless you join the Guard). 19D (Cavalry Scout), 19K (Armor Crewman) and 13F (Fire Support Specialist) are other good combat arms choices.
Edit: ...and Kent is retarded. 21B's are COMBAT engineers. They do maneuver support. There is one company of combat engineers in each combined arms battalion and one company of combat engineers in each Infantry Brigade. They specialize in clearing obstacles, breaching for maneuver, demolitions, etc. They may build defensive fortifications as well. He's thinking of all the other 21 series MOS's that are geared towards vertical and horizontal construction. Construction Engineer units and Combat Engineer units are VERY different things.
