The Latest Developments In Inkjet Printers And Inkjet Cartridges

This last quarter of 2009 saw inkjet printer manufacturers releasing new models to update their product lines in anticipation of the holiday sales. Various categories of new inkjet printers were brought to the market, ranging from home-use printers, small office or home office (SOHO) printers, multifunction printers and even wide-format printers.

Among those that updated their inkjet printer product lines is Canon. New Canon releases include the Canon Pixma MP640, the Canon Pixma iX7000, and the Canon Pixma MP990. The Pixma MP640 is a sleek multifunction printer that works on a five inkjet cartridge system and can connect using wireless, Ethernet or USB.

The Pixma MP990 is a photo printer that churns out photo prints at a resolution of at most 9600 x 2400 dpi at an average of 12 seconds. On the other hand, the Pixma iX7000 is a wide-format printer that features Canon's new pigment reaction technology, which allows the production of commercial quality prints on plain paper. Both the MP990 and the iX7000 have garnered good reviews among critics in the last couple of months.

Just like Canon, Hewlett-Packard has also updated its wide-format inkjet printer product line with the release of the HP Officejet 7000. The HP Officejet 7000 can print at high speeds without sacrificing print quality. Moreover, the cost of this wide-format inkjet printer is low enough for even SOHO printer users to be able to afford.

Kodak is also another inkjet printer manufacturer that released new printer models this fall. The company's recent offerings to the market include the ESP 5250. The ESP 5250 is a multifunction printer that can print, copy and scan. It is also reported to have a printing speed of 30 pages per minute, both for color graphics and plain text documents. This new Kodak printer can connect using USB and Wi-Fi.

Incidentally, the ESP 5250 is one of the latest printers produced by Kodak in line with the printer ink saving campaign that the company launched early this 2009. This Kodak ink saving campaign, which the company called Print and Prosper, is geared towards boosting Kodak printer sales by targeting audiences who are eager to save money on Replacement Inkjet Cartridges. Kodak eyed mostly female consumers for this campaign and partnered with media entities such as Oxygen, iVillage and Bravo to reach out to these female consumers.

The taglines used by Kodak in the Print and Prosper campaign are "What have you overpaid on your ink?" and "What has high priced ink cost you?" On the Print and Prosper website, there is a price comparison between the Kodak inkjet cartridges and the other leading manufacturers of inkjet printer consumables. Average price for ink produced by the likes of Epson and HP is pegged at $50 while the Kodak printer inks are priced at a mere $25 per package. The package already includes both color and black ink cartridges.
